Permanent Bruise is an experimental project created by multi-disciplinary practice artist, Nic Megchelse.
Sometimes functional, sometimes just ornamental, cute and fun pieces that touch on bigger subjects.
Most pieces employ the use of symbols, motifs and modern emojis as extensions of our language. They’re our contemporary hieroglyphs; serving as potent tokens for us to convey moods and remotely emote in the digital age.
The works hope to that draw upon the greater cultural significance of ceramics while combining something so throw away, like an emoji, and re-contextualising it all by immortalising it in stone.
All pieces are usually one off and all are lovingly hand-made in Naarm on stolen Wurundjeri Country.
